Peter Ross, Chief Executive, is a world renowned expert in evolutionary and nature-inspired computing. Peter, a Scot, holds three mathematics degrees from Cambridge and Imperial College London. He worked in the computing industry developing new software products before joining the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Edinburgh University to work on educational software that came to be used widely in UK schools. He rose to be head of the department and was closely involved in the commercialisation of artificial intelligence techniques through an offshoot, the AI Applications Institute. He has published around a hundred academic papers applying novel computing techniques in areas as diverse as education, industrial scheduling, robotics and medicine as well as in finance.

TRAITS was Peter's brainchild. He has led its development to date and will continue to lead its development. Peter stepped down from his post at Napier University in May 2005 to concentrate solely on Timberpost and TRAITS.

Tim Taylor, CTO, holds an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and an MSc and PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Edinburgh University. Tim is well known internationally for his research in evolutionary computing, artficial life and robotics.  He has authored over 30 academic papers, and is a regular reviewer for a variety of leading international journals and conference series. 

Tim also has commercial and academic experience of software development in the computer games industry, including a period of working as an AI researcher at MathEngine PLC in Oxford.  Additionally, he has commercial experience of developing financial software, having worked for two years for a quantitative investment firm in the City. During his time in the City, Tim also studied Investment Management at the London Business School.

Tim co-founded Timberpost with Peter Ross in May 2005.

Rory Macneil, Chairman, is a Harvard-trained lawyer, and practised law in San Francisco and Hong Kong. In 1987 he founded Macneil Pacific, a successful China consulting business, and subsequently grew it to four offices in Hong Kong and China before selling the business to Sidley Austin Brown & Wood in 1998. In Hong Kong, Rory spearheaded the founding of a number of other businesses, including Pearl River, a provider of financial information about Chinese stock markets, whose sale to Reuters in 1994 he instigated and managed.

Rory moved to Scotland in 2001 to develop opportunities emerging from the world leading software development taking place at Scottish universities. Peter Ross was one of the first people Rory met after the move, and the two kept in touch for the following four years, resulting finally in the establishment of Timberpost in 2005.

Bob Pettigrew, Director, was a director of the early stage investment company Generics Asset Management, and is an investor/director on the board of a number of technology companies. He is chairman of Genesis Ltd and is also a member of the advisory boards of Antenova and the SEP Synergy Fund as well as being a non executive board member of three Venture Capital Trusts, listed on the UK stock exchange.

Bob has been involved in Timberpost from the start in May 2005.

 

Gary Jones, Director. Gary is an Investment Manager with responsibility for Investment Companies (UK/Europe) at Aberdeen Asset Management. He joined the board of Timberpost at the end of 2007 following Aberdeen's acquisition of Glasgow Investment Managers (GIM being one of Timberpost's original investors).

Other parties. In addition to the executive and board of directors, a number of other investors also own a stake in Timberpost.
